KLK European Nations Cup

On Saturday, 25th May, our European football tournament “KLK European Nations Cup“ took place at the Eugen-Reintjes Stadium in Emmerich.

In 2011 in The Netherlands, our German team won the inaugural “KLK European Nations Cup”. We promised our opponent a rematch but apparently it took 8 years to fulfil this promise. We invited our European colleagues from KKS Delden (NL), Kolb Moerdijk (NL), Tensachem (BE) and Kolb Hedingen (CH) for the tournament.

After many months of organisation, phone calls and team meetings, the day finally arrived!

We started with a site tour at KLK Emmerich in the morning and all 110 guests were pleased with the great opportunity to see our production plants. After the tour, our colleagues were served with homemade spaghetti bolognese from our kitchen.  A big thank you to the kitchen team – who did a great job!

Satisfied, happy and of course excited after the delicious lunch, we arrived at the stadium! The mood and weather couldn’t have been better, everything was well prepared for a nice family and friends day. We had a bouncy castle and colourful make up for the kids, a shoot radar for the hardest shot (won by a German colleague) and good catering framed with suitable music.

After  welcome speeches by Mr. Ralf Ewering, Mr. Uwe Halder, Mr. Francois de Filippo, Mr. Mark Bramer and Mr. Sascha Torsten Mayer , the tournament started. There were six teams until the best four teams were left. After the semi-finals, KKS Delden and Kolb Hedingen fought for the 3rd place and Tensachem and KLK Glycerines for the 1st place. During the planning phase, it was decided to let the game for the 3rd place be played in penalty. Thus, fans from KKS Delden and Kolb Hedingen gave their everything and cheered loudly for their teams. In the end, luck was with the players from Kolb Hedingen – congratulations to the Hedingen team.

The final was as good and perfect as the starting day! Both teams, KLK Glycerines as well as Tensachem, played their best game on equal terms. It was very thrilling and the fans cheered as loud as they could. Only penalty could decide who would be the winner! It was really nerve-racking, but luckily and right in time the goal keeper from KLK Glycerines gave his everything and kept out the decisive ball. The game was over and the German team KLK Glycerines was and is still the winner of the tournament.

All fans, no matter from which team, were cheering and all teams were celebrating and congratulating each other. It was so good to see that we are a big European KLK family!

The evening ended with a big party and we wish to thank everyone who made this event unforgettable!
