Press Release: Davos Life Science receives Research Excellence Award from Frost & Sullivan

The award demonstrates Davos Life Science’s strong research commitment in palm Tocotrienols

2 March 2011, Singapore – Davos Life Science, the world’s largest tocotrienols manufacturer and research company, today announced that it has been awarded the 2010 Asia Pacific Frost & Sullivan Excellence in Research Award in the Natural Vitamin E Market. This award is in recognition of Davos Life Science’s (“DavosLife”) leading-edge research, which has demonstrated tocotrienols’ positive effect in a range of diseases.

“Equipped with robust research expertise, fruitful research collaborations, unique product formulations, which cover a broad range of applications and strong intellectual property rights ownership, Davos Life Science has truly emerged as a distinguished leader in tocotrienol research and development,” said Sandeepan Mondal, Senior Research Analyst for Frost & Sullivan’s Asia Pacific Chemicals, Material & Food practice.

Sandeepan added, “DavosLife, through its rigorous research and development activities, has developed and manufactured unique formulations of highly concentrated natural tocotrienols which are not only used in dietary supplements and food & beverages applications but also for research purposes and equipment calibrations. This has helped Davos to successfully cater to multiple target segments.”

“Tocopherols, the common form of Vitamin E, have been used for decades, mainly as an anti-oxidant or for skin care. However, scientists discovered that another form of Vitamin E, tocotrienols, showed significant health benefits not found in tocopherols, for a wide range of critical diseases, such as cancers, heart diseases, diabetes and inflammatory-related disorders. DavosLife has been conducting research into the use of tocotrienols to prevent or treat these life-threatening diseases. We are honoured to receive this prestigious award, which recognises our original research work that has advanced the knowledge of the potential health benefits of tocotrienols,” said Mr Arthur Ling, CEO of DavosLife.

Naturale3, the brand name for DavosLife’s tocotrienol, is extracted from GMO-free palm fruits, using state-of-the-art technology to achieve the world’s highest purity of up to 97% purity. Naturale3 has achieved GRAS (Generally regarded as Safe) status, which is a food safety standard reviewed and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). DavosLife aims to introduce Natural e3 in more countries around the world through extending its global alliances.

DavosLife’s published research in 2010 included the following areas:

  • Cancer: Tocotrienols, besides killing normal cancer cells, could also kill prostate cancer stem cells that are unaffected by a common chemotherapy drug. Cancer stem cells are believed to be responsible for cancer initiation. The research also showed that the development of prostate cancer tumours was prevented in mice pre-treated with gamma-tocotrienol. This suggests that gamma-tocotrienol has the potential to be used for prostate cancer prevention and treatment.
  • Metabolic syndrome: Gamma and Delta-tocotrienols were found to lower triglyceride formation and transportation. Triglycerides are a form of fat, and high levels are closely linked with increased risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
  • Skin pigmentation: The research showed tocotrienol’s ability to promote skin depigmentation through inhibition of the key protein tyrosinase in melanin Synthesis. DavosLife’s research revealed that tocotrienols reduced melanin production by 55% through tyrosinase inhibition that is up to 150 times more potent than other skin depigmenting agents.

The Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify the best practices in the industry.
