Macrogol Stearates are synthesized by ethoxylation of mainly stearic acid. The number in the product name indicates the average polymer length in ethylene oxide units. As a general rule of thumb, the higher the ethoxylation grade, the more hydrophilic the Macrogol Stearate.
Macrogol Stearates are mainly used as emulsifiers in oil in water creams and lotions, and have particular good emulsifying properties in presence of strong electrolytes. They are also very good solubilizers in liquid dosages and used as wetting agents for tableting.
